Invisalign Q & A

What is Invisalign®?

Invisalign® is an orthodontic system that uses a series of trays or aligners which are worn in a specific sequence to move teeth into their proper positions over time. Invisalign® aligners are made of clear, medical-grade plastic so they're virtually invisible while they're being worn.

What kinds of issues can Invisalign® treat?

Invisalign® can treat most orthodontic issues, including overbites, underbites, crossbites, and crowding issues. Not all orthodontic problems can be treated with Invisalign®, and having an evaluation at our office is the best way to learn if your concerns can be corrected with the Invisalign® system.

What happens during treatment with Invisalign®?

Invisalign® aligners are custom-fit to each person's mouth, so treatment will begin with impressions of your teeth. The impressions are sent to a dental lab and scanned into a computer that uses special software to create 3-D models of your mouth. The models are kind of like a time-lapse photo showing the ways your teeth will need to move during treatment to come into alignment. Your aligners will be made based on these models. Each aligner will be worn for about two weeks during treatment, then changed for the next aligner in the series. Office visits will take place about every six weeks.

Is Invisalign® better than other types of braces?

Invisalign® offers several benefits compared to traditional braces that use brackets and wires to move teeth. First, Invisalign® aligners are invisible so they're virtually undetectable while being worn. They're also smooth, with no sharp wires or brackets to snag sensitive soft tissues. Invisalign® aligners can be removed to make it easy to care for your teeth during treatment, and they can also be removed when eating so there are no dietary restrictions. Plus, since they're customized for your specific needs, treatment can often be completed in less time compared to traditional wire-and-bracket braces.

Am I a good candidate for Invisalign®?

Invisalign® offers an “adult” version as well as a “teen” version for patients whose adult teeth haven't fully emerged, and as a result, more people than ever can enjoy the benefits of Invisalign®. Still, Invisalign® isn't ideal for all orthodontic issues, and the best way to know if Invisalign® is right for you is to schedule a personal assessment and consultation.

Insurance & Cost Information:

The dental health of our patients is our primary goal and we provide several financial options to make dental treatment affordable for our patients so that goal can be met. We accept most dental insurance plans. If you have dental insurance, please bring your plan information with you or have the policy number ready so we can look up your coverage. We will work with you and your dental insurance company to maximize your dental benefits with your existing type of coverage. Remember dental insurances are intended to cover part, but not all the cost of your dental care. Also, most insurance plans include patient co-payments, deductibles, and other expenses and treatments that may not be covered. If you have any further questions about financial options please direct them to the front office which will be glad to answer them and work with you to figure out the most affordable way to budget your treatment.
